Online shoppers get their revenge

Shoppers have saved over £3 million with the help of My Voucher Codes

Shoppers have saved over £3 million with the help of My Voucher Codes

7th January 2008

While the growth of online shopping continues its dramatic rise, so too do the ways to save money when reaching the online checkout.

Leading UK discount and voucher code website MyVoucherCodes recently celebrated its first birthday after one year online, in which it has has passed over £3 million in savings for it’s shoppers.

MyVoucherCodes was formed in January 2007 when 26 year old entrepreneur Mark Pearson was trawling the web, finding discount codes and entering them onto his site. Word immediately spread that if you wanted to make an online purchase his site could find you a discount code.

Since then, visitors to the site have now spent over £30 million on products from the shops listed.

Mark decided to use search engines such as Google to see if he could find any discount codes but they were all stored on various obscure sites scattered around the internet and so he hit upon the idea of putting them all on one site.

The site has proved so popular that now some of the UK’s most well known high street retailers are pro-actively coming to Mark with codes and asking him to list them on his website.

It's understandable why the site has proved so successful. Consumers are proved with hundreds of discount savings, all easily located in one website, while retailers benefit from the high traffic of potential customers stumbling upon their discounted products.

Business data shows that over the last year the average discount has been 10% off the normal retail price.

Around 100,000 people have signed up to the site newsletter that gives people a weekly breakdown of the best codes and the companies with the biggest discounts.

MyVoucherCodes monitors and updates the new vouchers and discount codes every day thanks to a combination of people sending them in to help other consumers, and the site owner using technology to keep a watchful eye on the market place.

Speaking about the success of the site, Mark Pearson said: "The business success has meant I can do some of the things I have always wanted to do such as buy a house for my mum and take some time out to do a bit of travelling in a few years time."

"The site has opened up many new doors and opportunities both on a personal and business level and I am excited to see where we will be in 18 months time."
